Travel And Leisure Magazine claimed San Miguel was "the best city in the world" in 2017.
Dedicated in the 16th Century to St. Michael the Archangel, this lovely town is known for its culture, food and Spanish Colonial architecture. It's cobblestone streets and colorful walls and doorways give artists plenty of subjects to explore. The main visual point, the Parroquia, is a massive mock-gothic church, which sits across from the Jardin, which is a lovely park with sculpted trees, where citizens and tourists alike enjoy the birds, fountains and paths throughout. The evening brings multiple mariachi bands softly serenading, as lovers and friends walk around the plaza. First class food and beverages served at cafes are a welcome end to a day filled with paint and camaraderie.
There is a Mercado (marketplace) not far from the center of town, and there you will find abundant ceramics, jewelry, wooden ware, textiles, mirrors, and other things made in the area. The central area of the town is also a shoppers delight, and... there IS a Starbucks, but we believe you will enjoy coffee taken as the Mexicans take it, seated at a well decorated cafe, perhaps with churros! Taxi's are inexpensive, so sightseeing is an option. There are many good books about things to see in and around SMA.
